It is a great pleasure to welcome you all at the Eugenides Foundation, in the opening ceremony of the 12th European Union Science Olympiad, an initiative of the Hellenic Association of the Directors of Physical Sciences Laboratory Centers (PANEKFE).
The European Union Science Olympiad is an established competition for students 16 years of age or younger. The participants of each national team from the European Union member-states are invited to collaborate and use their skills to solve real problems through a series of physics, chemistry and biology experiments.
The Eugenides Foundation, honouring the vision of its founder, national benefactor Eugene Eugenides, always supported the education of young people in the fields of science and technology.
It was, therefore, with great pleasure that we accepted the invitation by the Hellenic Association of the Directors of Sciences Laboratory Centers to support the EUSO 2014 competition, especially since it embraces young people from the European Union.
In our opinion this competition offers us the opportunity to present a different Greece, one which the Eugenides Foundation deeply believes in.
Indeed, we see this occasion as an opportunity to demonstrate the importance of hard and methodical work in improving Greece’s output in science and innovation.
We support and rely on the new European generation and we hope and expect that they will avoid our own mistakes, in order to build a better Greece and a better Europe.
The Eugenides Foundation and myself wish all participants a pleasant stay in our country and best of luck in this competition.
Mr Leonidas Dimitriadis-Eugenides
President Of The Eugenides Foundation
